Almost 4,000 Security Personnel Deployed To Ensure Safety At Jakarta Demonstration

JAKARTA, March 5 (Bernama) -- Indonesian authorities have deployed 3,929 security personnel to monitor a demonstration related to the 2024 General Election in front of the Parliament Complex in Tanah Abang, Central Jakarta today.

According to the Central Jakarta Police, personnel from the Jakarta police, the military, local government, and related agencies have been stationed around the complex.

The security measures, including traffic closures and diversions, will be implemented according to the situation, said Chief Commissioner General Susatyo Purnomo Condro in a statement.

He urged demonstrators to protest peacefully, stressing on the importance of a calm and diplomatic approach. 

Local media reports that over 1,000 participants, including students, workers, activists, and academics participated in the demostration organised by the ‘National Coalition for Democracy Rescue’ to protest the ongoing general election results. 

They are calling for action on 15 issues, including rejecting the election results, investigating alleged election fraud, and lowering prices of essential goods.

The country’s House of Representatives will start the fourth session of the 2023-2024 term, the first meeting after the 2024 election.
