Top leadership should focus on efforts to strengthen party - Sabah UMNO

SANDAKAN, Dec 18 -- Sabah UMNO wants the party leadership, especially at the central level to focus on efforts to strengthen the party instead of undermining party unity.

Its chairman Datuk Seri Bung Moktar Radin said the party’s top leadership should not bicker among themselves to ensure that UMNO continues to have the support and place in the hearts of the people.

“All party divisions are holding a delegates meeting today and Sabah UMNO will put forward several motions simultaneously, among them on how to empower the party and the leaders.

“...It (quarrel among leaders) will only weaken the party and its struggle at the grassroots level,” he told reporters after officiating the Kinabatangan UMNO division delegates meeting, here, today.

Meanwhile, Bung Moktar, who is also Sabah Deputy Chief Minister, said Sabah UMNO would follow the central leadership’s decision not to cooperate with Perikatan Nasional (PN) in the 15th General Election (GE15).

Unlike the UMNO-Gabungan Rakyat Sabah (GRS) cooperation that was established during the state election last year, he explained that Sabah UMNO has the autonomy to forge the collaboration.

He said the nationwide delegates meeting held today would be a catalyst for all party members to prepare for GE1.

To ensure that UMNO and BN continue to lead the country, he said the party must always make the various interests of the people a priority.
