SUPP to shift into high gear for TDC

SIBU, April 19 (Bernama) – With most of its 52 branches scheduled to complete their elections by this weekend, the Sarawak United People’s Party (SUPP) will move into high gear for its Triennial Delegates Conference in Kuching on May 21, said its president Datuk Seri Dr Sim Kui Hian.

He said elections had been going on smoothly at all branches, with some senior leaders expected to make way for younger members to take over.

“The senior members are saying they are giving way to the young ones. I want to thank them. I appreciate those who have contributed towards the party, especially when the party was really down in the past six to seven years,” he said.

Speaking to reporters after opening the SUPP Bukit Assek Service Centre at Tong Sang Road here today, Sim said some senior members wanted to continue contributing to the party for more years to come.

“We welcome them. This is the culture of SUPP, remaining united rather than fighting among themselves after winning elections,” said the Deputy Premier of Sarawak.

He said this is important as people are sick and tired of politicians fighting for posts within a party.

“The people are only interested in what you can do for them, for the economy, for development. That is also our aim,” he stressed.

Asked on SUPP's preparations for the 15th general election (GE15), he said the party would be monitoring the situation closely as nobody knows when it would be held.

He said those aiming to be SUPP candidates in GE15 should always be close to the people.

“What I have said many times is that one should not work only after being announced as a candidate but to always be on the ground helping the people, sharing vision and always be available to show sincerity to the rakyat.

“The more you are on the ground, the more popular you will be and you will be a candidate. That’s what I have always told SUPP members. Get ready to do your work,” he said.
