PKR polls: Anwar wants forensic audit to be expedited

KUALA LUMPUR, June 16 (Bernama) -- PKR president Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim has urged that the audit process of the party’s 2022 elections be expedited.

He said this was to enable the party to prepare its machinery to face the 15th General Election.

Anwar, who won the PKR presidency unopposed for the 2022-2025 term, explained that the party’s Election Committee (JPP) led by Dr Zaliha Mustafa had asked the central leadership to give them some time to examine all complaints received by the committee.

“There is also another audit by an independent audit firm...to see if there is any misconduct. If there is any issue, we will look into it. This is the strength of our party,” he said in a video which was uploaded to his Facebook page today.

As such, he said the party’s central leadership, during a meeting last week, had proposed that the PKR’s annual national congress scheduled to take place from June 24 to 26 be postponed to July 15 to 17 to provide a two-week notice after the final announcement of the JPP.

Prior to this, Dr Zaliha said the findings of the forensic audit of the recent party polls would be tabled to the JPP this Sunday as the appointed digital expert team was still preparing the report.

Meanwhile, Anwar described the election results as a clear message that PKR needs to bring about positive changes and that for reform to take place, the party must have strong support from the people.

The unofficial results updated on the opposition party’s polls website showed that Rafizi Ramli is ahead of PKR secretary-general Datuk Seri Saifuddin Nasution Ismail for the Deputy President post with 68,451 votes while Saifuddin, 48,223 votes.
